Overview

Part of the 2009-2010 MBT Season

“Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!” sings the Emcee of the Kit Kat Club through painted lips. Storm clouds are just beginning to gather in 1930’s Berlin while 19 year-old London-born Sally Bowles works as a singer at the seedy nightspot, trying her best to live the thrillingly decadent life the city was supposed to offer. Into Sally’s orbit comes young American writer Cliff Bradshaw, and as the noises of Nazism grow louder, the two enter into an unconventional relationship while the ever-present Emcee brazenly continues his bawdy presentations even as the world begins to change.

Opening in 1966, Cabaret became an instant Broadway success, featuring such well-known hits as “Wilkommen,” “Cabaret,” “Don’t Tell Mama,” and “Two Ladies.” At times sweet and sleazy, controversial and compelling, Cabaret invites you to a place where even the orchestra is beautiful.
