The Bellingham Symphony Orchestra features Peter Boyer’s Ellis Island: The Dream of America with seven local narrators voicing stories of the historic American immigrant experience and the American dream.
Join the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra as they perform music that transcends oppression while introducing students to the orchestra. Ellis Island brings elements of the theatre and multimedia into the concert hall, with actors and projected historical images from the Ellis Island archives. Boyer chose the stories of seven immigrants who came to America through Ellis Island from disparate nations between 1910-1940. Boyer has fashioned short monologues from the actual words of these immigrants from the Ellis Island Oral History Project and has woven them into an orchestral tapestry which frames their stories.
