MBT Wade Bennett King Education Series Presents

Jayanthi Raman's Navarasa Kalinga Nartana

Classical Dance of India

Experience the Magic of Indian Dance with Jayanthi Raman

Jayanthi Raman Dance Company presents NAVARASA Kalinga Nardana, an Indian dance theater production that brings to life the ancient story of Lord Krishna’s battle and triumph over the serpent Kalinga (Kaliya). Experience this timeless tale of Lord Krishna’s victory through the art of dance, as Navarasa Dance of India showcases the theme of Navarasa – the nine moods codified in dance literature, Natya Sastra.

The battle between the snake Kaliya and Lord Krishna has been passed down through many generations. The dance is choreographed using Bharatha Natyam and the rarely seen Chau classical dance styles, along with folk and contemporary dances from India. With an exceptional original music score, this production is unique in its concept, instrumentation, and choreography. The performance will feature male and female dancers from India and the US, part of the Jayanthi Raman and Company repertoire.
